Jack E. Fryar, Jr. is a lifelong resident of Wilmington, N.C. He has been a professional writer and publisher since 1994, a freelance magazine writer, a radio broadcaster, sports announcer, and book designer. He founded Dram Tree Books, a small publishing house dedicated to books that tell the Carolina story, in 2000. Jack has written or edited thirty books of North Carolina and Cape Fear history. He has served as a United States Marine, and is a frequent lecturer for many area historic groups, schools, and civic organizations. Jack earned a Master of Arts in History from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2015, and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration on Secondary Education from UNCW's Watson School of Education in 2016. His history master's thesis was titled Charles Towne on the Cape Fear: The Rise and Fall of Carolina's First West Indian Colony. Jack is a historical re-enactor, and has served on the board of the Friends of Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site. He is married to his high school sweetheart - even though it wasn't until two decades later that they sealed the deal - and is a rabid fan of Carolina Panthers football, the Washington Nationals, and all things UNC.
